‘But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him’ – this is spiritual blessing – ‘shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him’ – something possessed and never lost – ‘a well of water springing up into everlasting life.’ What a picture of salvation. You get a blessing which emancipates your mind so that you understand spiritual things and the Scriptures of God. You get a blessing which gives you a new nature, a new character. You get a blessing which gives you spiritual life so that you are in communion with God, and you can pray, and you can have your prayers answered. You get a blessing which changes you morally, ethically. You get a blessing which infuses into you great happiness and anticipation for eternity. These things are astonishing.
Application
And what is the lady’s response to this? She still does not get it. This was just like many of us years ago. What blockheads people must have found us who were trying to bring us to understand the way of salvation. We all felt nothing of him at one time, and then we found him, and he revealed himself to us, and life was transformed.
