John 4:22
Comments
The Samaritans worshipped without any certainty or assurance. They had no true prophets or divine revelation, and could not be sure their procedures were right. But when it comes to God’s dealings with the human race, it was through one nation, Israel, that the word of God came, and they were taught to recognise it. Salvation came through the Jews, as God made an instructive covenant with the nation, gave them his laws, appointed symbolic forms of worship that foreshadowed the work of Christ, and cause the Messiah to be physically descended from Abraham and from David. Israel was meant to be the instructor of the whole world, and eventually the gospel was preached by Jewish apostles and went out into all the world starting at Jerusalem.
