From then on the Jews persecuted Jesus. In what way? They started to barrack him, and to try to ask awkward questions, and to spoil his preaching ministry if they can, and discredit him. Particularly behind the scenes, they plot and scheme and begin to plan his destruction and his death. And the reason is ‘because he had done these things on the sabbath day’. He had broken their whole theology. If a man can be God’s representative, the son of God and operate on the Sabbath, well that destroys at a crucial point everything that they teach and stand for.
