John 5:27 Commentary and Bible Study

This is about the Son exercising judgement in the future, but also even while he is on earth. He is telling the Jewish leaders, in more details now, about himself as Judge. They would have known that what he was saying; this term, ‘the Son of man’, comes from the book of Daniel. They were familiar with the prophesies of Daniel, and particularly a wonderful prophesy in Daniel 7, which speaks of the Son of man who would be given a kingdom, and power, and glory. Christ is saying to these Scripturally-educated Jews, ‘I am that Son of man. I am the one, and because I am the Son of man, all judgement will finally be given to me.’
