Christ tells his disciples to make the people sit down, and as the other Gospels tell us, in groups of one hundred and then of fifty. There is great order.
This placid obedience is a picture of salvation, because to be saved we come to Christ obediently. We simply repent of our sins, and put our trust in him, and see him as Saviour suffering and dying for our sin. We do not work, we do not achieve anything, we cannot. We do not bring or present anything to him. We have nothing to bring. And even the sitting in an orderly manner pictures the passivity of salvation. We come, we yield, we believe, we repent, we do nothing to earn or deserve.
