John 6:17
Comments
They went without him. He had obviously asked them to do so, and they knew that he would come, in his own way, in due time. Capernaum was where some of them lived; Capernaum was the headquarters of Christ’s Galilean ministry. And off they went by themselves. ‘And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.’ That doesn’t mean they expected him to. John, in this inspired narrative, is looking back after some years to what had happened, and this is a comment on the side: It was now dark, and this was before Christ came to them, walking on the water.
