This is not a direct quotation on the part of Christ. It runs very close to Isaiah but it is not quite a quotation. It is a reproduction of several statements in the prophets. ‘It is written in the prophets, and they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.’ So he makes that plain to those resistant leaders who would not have him.In every converted person there has been that personal teaching of God the Father through the Spirit, not with outward words, but in the heart, where God teaches us in a way that ensures we understand. The result of that teaching is to make us see God’s wonderful provision of the Lord Jesus Christ and that he is the only one who can supply our need. We desire him above all else and are ready to forsake all for him, and we rejoice that he has come down to earth and is available to us, presented to us in the gospel as our own Saviour if we trust in him.
