But none of this is attractive to the unregenerate mind and heart. The flesh does not really want eternal life.
People say, ‘Oh, you speak about the Gospel. This is just you selfish Christians. You offer eternal life, and people naturally want something more than they can get on earth; they want eternal life. But those who speak this way do not understand. Christians do not simply want life that goes on for ever. It is the character of that life that matters to them: to see God, to see their Redeemer, to know his love, to be with him eternally, to be free from sin, to explore all his being and his created order. This is what they want and not just a continual existence of the present.
