It does not come through in the English, but in the New Testament Greek it is evident the question is asked in such a way that the only answer, the answer that is required, is, ‘No, we will not.’ Of course they would not leave him, for they had been born again, and nothing could persuade them to leave their Lord and Saviour. They were not going to be intimidated by the crowds, for they knew their Lord and nothing could persuade them to change their minds. They may not have understood everything that he had said, but they were convinced that his words were true, and his word prevailed over every other word that came into conflict with it.
