John 6:69 Commentary and Bible Study

Peter speaks for all and sums up the essence of their faith. It is that the Son of God has come into the world and lived among us. He is more than John the Baptist, more than Elijah, or Jeremiah, or one of the prophets; he is the promised Messiah who would reveal all things and reconcile God to man, and man to God. He has taken human flesh so that he can fulfil the law on our behalf and take the punishment that we deserve. God has visited his people, and he has done so to enable them to relate to him, in spite of the infinite gulf between us and God by nature.
