The coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost must await the resurrection and glorification of Christ. Later he tells his disciples that he will send his Spirit to them from the Father, and the Spirit would bear witness to Christ, to the risen and ascended Christ. The presence of the Spirit in the world would therefore be proof to those who received him that Christ had risen to heaven and was seated at the right hand of the Father. He would come to be another comforter in place of Christ, and his leaving them would be profitable or expedient to the disciples because without it the Spirit would not come to them. When he came he would empower them for the work of preaching the gospel to all nations, and work through their preaching to bring many into the kingdom of heaven.
