‘I judge no man. And yet if I judge …’ Is that a contradiction? No, Christ states his primary purpose. He has not come to judge but to save. But one day, of course, he will be the judge. Ultimately when he comes again, he will be the judge of all the earth. But for the present, he judges no man. Except that if people reject his person, they are as good as judged. They are to be judged by his word. ‘And yet if I judge’, verse 16, ‘my judgement is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.’
