He bore witness of himself by his life and teaching and miracles. These confirmed all that he said about himself. But the Father that sent him also bore witness of me in the prophecies, through the words of the last of the prophets, John the Baptist, through, of course, the power which he gave to Christ to exercise on earth. And the reasoning seems to be along these lines – if you believe the testimony of two men, how much more should you believe the testimony of two divine persons, the Father and the Son.
