The bond slave of sin picture continues through the following verses. Now in Romans 6:16 we read – the Apostle Paul says this an awful lot – ‘Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?’ The Apostle begins his words saying, ‘Know ye not,’ why does he say that? Because Christ taught this – everybody knows this. It is a fundamental that comes immediately from the ministry of Christ. ‘That to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey’ – bond slaves to obey – ‘his servants ye are.’What Christ is saying is, that if you never come to him and your life is governed by your appetites – whims, desires, sins, and you are all for this life – don’t you know, you are the bond slave of that. And, in that sense, He says to the Jews, you are slaves, you are bond slaves to the sin which rules you.
