This is a warning – if they dishonour the Father, the Father will dishonour them. After all, that is the standard. It is in 1 Samuel 2:30, God’s standard: ‘Them that honour me I will honour, and them that despise me,’ well, effectively I will treat them with contempt also. Christ says in other words, ‘I have come to suffer and to die for sinners. I have come to exhibit the power of God, to save souls. I haven’t come to enrich myself. I haven’t come to rule the world, in an earthly sense. But there is One – God the Father – who seeketh’ – seeketh what? - ‘my glory.’ He says. ‘I don’t seek my glory – in my ministry on earth – I come to be humiliated, and to make an atonement, and to be a Saviour. But be careful what you think of me, because there is One who seeks my glory – even God, the Father – and he will hold all to account for how they honour me.’ He will judge all those who will not yield to me. That is the sense of the verse.
