Of course, they did know something of how he had been healed, but they are terrified of the authorities. ‘Of who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him.’ They almost seem to imply, ‘He’s getting us into a lot of trouble here. Let him stand up entirely for himself.’
