Jude 1:10

In contrast to the Archangel Michael, the men that Jude has in mind have no brake on their mouths. They have no reverence for dignitaries, and no restraint in saying whatever forms in their minds. They don't believe they will ever be called to account for anything they say, so what does it matter if their words are accurate or not. They use words for effect and they are quite happy to misrepresent the truth as long as somebody believes them. This is a devastating description of their fearful state. Their carnal minds are incapable of knowing spiritual things, but does this stop them from offering their opinion on lofty matters. They lack any shame about making fools of themselves just because they are blind to the glory of the things they speak evil of. In their pride they cannot imagine that there is anything outside their experience that is worth knowing; they acknowledge nothing that is greater than themselves. You would think that a man would exercise some caution about what he does not know, but they regard what they do not know as not worth knowing. Therefore they defile and besmirch the Lord himself with their vain words. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Their behaviour is the opposite of that of Michael, the archangel, who understood perfectly what evil the devil had done, yet left it to God to rebuke him. These filthy dreamers corrupt everything within their reach and what is not within their reach they try to corrupt as well. Who would give them knowledge when they have shown what they would do with it? Who would entrust anything to them? The similarity between these men and brute beasts is that both know only earthly things. It is to man's shame that he can have no more knowledge than the beasts for God has given him a far nobler place than them in his creation, and yet the man is little different to a beast when his spiritual nature is dead.
