Luke 12:57 Commentary and Bible Study

This is a further question related to the previous question. ‘How is it that ye do not discern this time? Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?’ This further question suggests a remedy for the failure identified in the previous question. If they want to discern the times in which they live, let them judge for themselves what is right. Hendriksen comments that verse 57 has received wide ranging different interpretations (Commentary on Luke, page 685), and he prefers those which see the people as being urged to think again, either by ignoring what others have said, or by letting their own consciences guide them to the truth. This approach will lead them to understand as they should. This implies that it was not hard to come to the right conclusion, if only they would give a fair consideration to the facts.
