This will be his final word, and there will be no further reply to it. He repeats that final word which they should have taken note of, and then he goes further.
Let none reply on coming to the Lord at the last moment, at the judgement seat of Christ, and only then beginning to be serious about their great need. That is too late. Right now we can plead with him. Right now we can do our utmost to persuade him to show mercy to us, and he will hear us. He will hear us because he has chosen to do so. If any leave it until the last day, the evidence that even then they are not serious is within them. They are, and will remain forever, workers of iniquity. That unchanged character is the final piece of evidence which will condemn them.
We do not love the Lord Jesus Christ because he is soft, weak, able to be manipulated, able to have his mind changed by his creatures, having a weaker will than his own creatures. We love him because he is resolute, because he has known from eternity what he intends to do, who he loves and who he hates. He loves with an everlasting love, and he hates with an everlasting hatred. There is no crossover of his love to his hatred. He is able to keep the two apart perfectly.
