(Synoptics: Luke 14:15-24)This comment is just a pompous piece of pious twaddle from the person who utters it. ‘And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
No one must ever presume that they are going to heaven unless they have really sought and found the Lord. There are many people who have never attend a place of worship, and there are others who do attend but who only have a smattering of religious belief – they have never really agonized over their sin, and realized their unworthiness, and gone to Christ in prayer and pleaded with him to forgive them, and they have never felt his response, and had a totally changed life. Such people are not going to heaven. They don't belong to God, and they have no hope at all, and that is the solemn warning of this parable.
