Luke 14:21

In spite of ‘the master of the house being angry [he] said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.’ God's mercy is such that although every man and woman born rejects his love, and spurns his offer of life and mercy, and turns against him and makes futile excuses; the amazing thing is God is so full of love he is still determined to have a great company of people at that feast. He is still determined to have a great multitude in the place where he will give them life and forgiveness and spiritual blessing. And so he comes into the hearts and minds of many, many people, and he so deals with us that at last we break down, and we see our spiritual need, and we see our awful sinfulness and our insulting behaviour. We suddenly catch a glimpse of ourselves and all our selfishness and pride. We realise as we never did before that we cannot possibly go to heaven, and we grasp what God has done, what the Saviour has done in suffering and dying to bear the punishment of the sins of those who come to him.
Application
And these are the terms, says God, the only people who will come into the feast are ‘the poor, and the maimed, and the halt’ – that is the lame – ‘and the blind, people who are acknowledging that they are morally incurable, weak and hopeless. God says, ‘You can still come in; you can come in, because I have found a way to pardon you and cleanse you and heal you. I have found a way to make you whole. God's arms are still open.
