Luke 14:27 Commentary and Bible Study

When you become a Christian, you are put at odds with a lot of people in this world. You are saved from being against God – an atheist or something similar, dismissing him, avoiding him, full of self-determination and your own way, with your mind fixed on this material life – but now you are opposed to your old life and all that the world stands for. Because you have got new values, and you have found the Lord, and you follow him and serve him, many people won't like you, and many people will turn against you and reject you. Sadly and unfortunately, there is a cross to bear in this sense, and Christ insists that we bear his cross, and stand for him, and maintain loyalty to him, otherwise we cannot be his disciple.
