This verse brings to our attention once again what is being illustrated by these two miniature parables. Christ has never left the subject; he is still considering what it is to truly become one of his disciples. Do not think of discipleship unless you are ready to meet the conditions, and the conditions are total commitment, a readiness to forsake everything for Christ. You must be ready to forsake your pride, and take the lowest place at the table. You must be ready to forsake everything that would cause you to neglect the gospel invitation. And you must be ready to forsake even closest family if that becomes necessary.
