But here is the difference as Christ gives it to us. Viewed spiritually, what happen to the rich man? Immediately after he dies, we find that ‘in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
What happens when somebody goes into eternity without God? In that moment they must be stripped of all good. Any good thought in them, any good gift, anything which is wholesome and right will be taken away. Didn't you realize that is all on loan to you from Almighty God? That belongs to him. If you have taken these things for yourself, and you have spurned him, then when your lease is up and you leave this life, everything which is on loan to you from God must be taken from you, and you must be dispatched to the place of your choice. God who is full of love with pain in his heart one day must remove all those things which you've abused, which you've taken for granted. You have turned your back on God all your life, and when it comes to the end of the journey, God must give you the desire of your life, and you must be consigned away from his presence for all eternity. All those things which you have stolen and seized and misused must be taken from you. You are going to a place where there is no love, no truth, no beauty, no wholesome pleasure; only hatred, selfishness, lies, and pain. If only we could get this home to those who are so careless about the soul. If you leave this life without having believed God, having spurned him and ridiculed him, the time must come when all the things you had in life, which you valued, must be taken away from you. They don't belong to you. You have no right to them.
