But that glorious day is in the future, and many hard things must happen first. The Lord was ready to go to the cross of Calvary, and endure all its terrible suffering in order to make that wonderful future day possible.
Why do people reject Christ, when he has the only solution to their eternal condemnation? Who in their right mind would not put away every other consideration in order to take hold of this undeserved favour from God? Pride has a power which is astonishingly great. It can lead us to work against our own interests, even our eternal interests. The Jews were invited first of all to come to into the kingdom of God, and the terms of entry were so easy, and so much better than the terms offered by the law of Moses. It was not because they could not enter that they remained at a distance from Christ, but because they would not enter.
