‘And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.’ The Lord Jesus Christ comes along and here is this extortioner, this greedy and heartless individual.
Is this true of us? How long have you lived in this life? How long have you lived for the material things around you: for your home, for your job, for all the bric-a-brac of life? Are you now beginning to feel the emptiness of it, the vanity of it? Are you beginning to realize that you are not just made to be like a rather sophisticated animal, living only for things you can touch, see and handle? From time to time does this barrenness get into your soul? Do you realize that you were made for something more, something higher? That there's supposed to be a spiritual experience and you have none of it? Surely there was something of this in Zacchaeus heart.
