Luke 19:6
Comments
Immediately Zacchaeus came down. When he climbed up that tree, this was the last thing he expected. He imagined he would get a good view of the Lord and would have the opportunity to assess his bearing and the look into his eye, but he never expected there would be a personal interaction between them. There was much mystery in all this. He was dealing with one who knew all about him. How did the Lord know? But Zacchaeus responded positively to all this. He received the Lord into his house with joy. That too tells us about the state of his mind. Though there was much that was mysterious about all this, and what was happening went beyond the best he could have hoped for, certainly it was exactly what he wanted. He was full of joy. That tell us about the state of his soul. He was ready to come to the Lord on his terms. He was prepared to put away all his past cruelty to people and not to make excuses for what he was. Christ and the message he preached was the most wonderful thin to him. He would give up all that he had in order to become his disciple.
Application
This yieldedness is always present in the heart of the sincere seeker after God. The joy comes from having found something which is worth more than all the world put together. We know that the world is passing away, and the rich man must lose all his riches and can take nothing with him. And when the soul discovers Christ, it knows he is not of this world, and is not subject to the principle of decay that is in this world. We have found one who transcends all the limitations of this world, and if we can be united with him, we will have that treasure in heaven that will never be taken from us.
