Luke 22:69 Commentary and Bible Study

Referring to himself as the Son of man, he gives a testimony to the truth about himself which they have asked for. They will certainly use this to demand his death, but the truth cannot be hidden and the Scripture must record his rightful claims. They know he is speaking about himself. The Son of man, the incarnate Son of God, is going to be exalted to the highest position at the right hand of God. He knows he will successful in the work of redemption which he is about to carry out, and it is a comfort to him to trust in the unshakeable nature of his Father’s plan. That plan is that the Messiah, the Son of man as Daniel calls him, will be given a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every know shall bow. These proud men also will find that the day comes when the roles will be reversed: Christ will be their Judge, and what hope will there be for them when they have never come to him for mercy. By then it will be too late: he will be at the right hand of the power of God, and he will have received all power in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18). What can any enemy hope to do to harm God’s cause, when at the time that he placed himself in their hands, they did their utmost to destroy him, and yet he was given the victory?
