Luke 24:18 Commentary and Bible Study

Cleopas was one of the men on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:18), and it was his wife, Mary, who had stood near the cross (John 19:25), and who is probably the same as the Mary who came to the tomb at the resurrection, and who was the mother of James the less and Joses (Luke 24:10; Mark 15:40). He therefore knew from his own wife's testimony about the claimed appearance of angels. He evidently didn't believe her, or at least doubted what she said.So full of the news of these events was Jerusalem that it seemed impossible to Cleopas and his companion that anyone who had been in the city could be unaware of what had taken place. There was no other topic of conversation between any who lived there. And yet this stranger who seemed to have come from Jerusalem apparently did not to know. In this way the Lord drew them out to express what was in their hearts.
