The woman had come in response to Christ’s gracious invitation with the burden of her sin, in the hope that he would remove it. She would leave with a sense of complete relief from that burden. She did not need any man to tell her that she was forgiven for she had heard it from the mouth of the Lord, and that was enough. She would go in peace, and what a sense of peace it was! Who can describe the joy of the newly converted man or woman? They have indeed found the pearl of great price, and they know that nothing can take that away from them. They step out on life with treasure in heaven, beyond the reach of any thief. ‘Thy faith hath saved thee.’ She had exercised faith and the Lord recognized it as genuine faith, and wanted her to be sure of that. Faith he tells her was key, and without it she would not have been accepted and forgiven, but she had believed and she could rejoice in the genuineness of her faith also, even though she recognized that it was the gift of God. Our God is the God of peace; he wants all of his children to enjoy that peace. Peace can only come from him, and if we have peace with him, then we can put up with the enmity of unbelieving man for a brief while. That peace is our inheritance also in heaven, and nothing can take it away. How different is the heart of a believer and the heart of an unbeliever!
