Isn't that interesting? Why did the Lord do that? Why did the Lord cause these devils, these demons, these powers, to go into the swine so that they were destroyed? There are a number of reasons. What a picture it is of the destructive power of the forces of evil.
When somebody repents before God, this is what happens. His sins are forgiven. He is converted. He is made a new creature in Christ Jesus. His heart is changed, and the stranglehold of the devil is broken and cast aside. That stranglehold is more powerful than you ever imagine. We need to get this same deep impression as this poor man had of the stranglehold which is upon us before God delivers and saves us.
If you come to Christ it must be with an open heart sincerely. It must be repenting of all your sin, remembering that all things are naked and open to the same Saviour who dealt with those people on the Gadarene shores. You must truly want him. You must want to be converted. This is how you repent before the Lord: stop struggling, stop opposing, stop running away, and turn to him. Turn your face up to him and say, ‘Oh God, my sins are legion, many. I am so sick and so sinful and so vile and filthy and hopeless. Save me Lord.’
