The rejected generation is given this superb, this wonderful appeal. ‘In spite of all I have said about you, if you will bring before me [your whole tithe]’ – ‘all the tithes’ could be better translated as ‘your whole tithe. ‘If you could bring me your heart as well as your tithes; if you could bring me your love and your service, even now I would pour out such a blessing and your entire fortunes would be changed.’ God holds out that possibility to them, but of course it was not going to happen; whatever he said, they were not going to listen. ‘Prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.’ I am not short of blessings with which to bless you, says the Lord.
