Bartimaeus had exercised faith. Faith had made him cry out. Faith had made his call Jesus by the name, ‘Son of David’. It was faith that had made him not listen to the crowd when they told him to be silent, but had made him cry out the more. Faith saw this discouragement as working against his eternal spiritual interests and he refused to listen to it. Faith had made him throw away his coat and hurry to Jesus when he was called, and faith had made him believe that Christ could indeed heal him and pardon his sin and bring him into a relationship with the living God. It was the start of a new life of seeing, and he followed Jesus in the way. Surely that means that he went to Jerusalem. He became a disciple. He saw terrible things: the arrest of Christ, the crucifixion. Maybe he was there when Christ ascended into heaven. He saw astonishing things. Of course he is long dead, he sees eternal glory now.
Application
When we come to Christ and we ask the right things, we trust in Calvary and his atoning death, and we yield our lives to him, our eyes are spiritually opened and we become followers of him, we get great spiritual experiences, we have a testimony to his name. We walk with him and we are on the highway to heaven. The healing of blind man. Blindness is a biblical symbol of the unconverted heart. In this miracle Christ shows us how our faith must overcome all obstacles and persist in calling on his name until he answers us.
