When we preach along these lines even today, there are many people who think this is terrible, this is awful; we are obsessed with sin. We are not obsessed with sin. We proclaim the holiness of God. We proclaim the fact that man is separated, cut off, alienated from God, and we proclaim wonderful mercy available from God – all my sin can be washed away. My conscience can be clear; I can have communion with God; I can be reconciled with him; I can have eternal life. We are not obsessed with sin, we are obsessed with forgiveness and new life: the mercy and the kindness of God.
