But then there is a word of comfort, though they miss this entirely. ‘But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.’ That implies a lot. They are going to be scandalised or offended at him. There is going to be a betrayal and unfaithfulness. But still they are going to be restored, evidently. They are going to recover, and they will be with him and following him. again, but in a different sense. He will go before them, but they won't accompany him; they will travel to Galilee to see the risen Lord, and there will be at least three parts or components to that appearance of the risen Christ in Galilee, and others, of course, in Jerusalem and elsewhere. You will deny me, you will flee but I will gather you together once again, and bring you back to myself after I am risen. They are given just a glimpse of the wonderful mercy of Christ.
