Mark 14:42 Commentary and Bible Study

The hour is very late. Probably by now it is about three in the morning. This has been immediately preceded by the experience of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, where he suffered this unthinkable preview of his sufferings on Calvary, where he saw clearly everything that would take place. Yet he went forward in obedience to the divine place, his plan with the Father and with the Holy Spirit, that he would be our scapegoat, our sin-bearer. For between one and three hours he had seen what would happen so vividly and tasted and felt it and yet he offered himself up for this very purpose to the suffering of death on our behalf.
