We now read of the apostle Peter’s fall and restoration in the Gospel of Mark, and by human standards it is amazing that we do, because this is Peter’s Gospel. Mark was his helper, his assistant, his secretary, as it were.
The Bible is so honest. This is given under the inspiration of the Spirit of God. It does what no human literature usually will do. It tells us the worst about ourselves. The writer acknowledges the worst about himself. It tells us about the grace of God and the free pardon and forgiveness, and the wonderful lovingkindness of the Lord, his readiness to forget and put behind these things, to repair the damage, and to uphold the person. Three times Peter denied the Lord. Not once, not twice, but three times he did it, in spite of specific warning.
