Peter had been conversing with them so as not to stand out, but his Galilean accent gave him away, and they recognised it, knowing that Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples were from Galilee. Not the third denial came when a man challenged him, and this man was a relation, presumably a brother, of Malchus the high priest's servant. It was Peter who had severed his ear from his head. Christ had restored it, but Peter was the man who did it. Now his fear grew of recognition and arrest and execution. Fear governed him, overwhelmed him, and the third denial came.
