Mark 15:24

This takes place the soldiers at the foot of the cross. It was a fulfilment of prophecy, Psalm 22, verse 18. They are all unbeknown carrying out their part to fulfil the things written beforehand about him. John explains the prophecy in more detail: that the reason there were two parts to the prophecy was because it was going to be fulfilled precisely. The clothing which could be divided was divided, but they were unwilling to tear the tunic which was without seam and so cast lots for it (John 19:23-24).It was at this point, Luke tells us, that Christ said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’ He was far more concerned for those people than for himself. Some of them would be saved, particularly on the Day of Pentecost, and some of the priests even, who hurled insults, would be saved, would seek him and find him.
