‘For he had healed many.’ That is an understatement.
It is a picture of how he heals spiritually. Your sin and your alienation from God may cause you great pain, and Christ can heal and bring you to himself. It is painful to live with our own mortality, and to know that we have no cure for it and deserve to die. It is painful to know we are alienated from God and he is our enemy and instead of providence working for our good it is working against us in ways that we cannot fathom. It is painful to feel our guilt like a weight that presses down upon us which we cannot remove. It is painful to be growing old and to have irresistibly stripped away from us all that we value. It is painful to be separated from those we love.
If you are coming to Christ, does Satan whisper in your ear, ‘But how do you know that he will accept you?’ The answer is given in here. The demonstration given by Christ was this, ‘he healed all the sick who came to him’, and God’s promise to you is in that demonstration: even unclean spirits, everything. May God help us with lessons for coldness of heart, and lessons for seeking the Lord.
