Judas: why did the Lord select Judas, when he knew what he was, and he knew he wouldn't be regenerate. He knew he was a thief, and self-seeking, and a cheat, and he knew that he would betray him? Because it was his will and the will of God that there should be a betrayer. It helps us in a way. In every company of Christian people there will be those – not necessarily behaving like Judas – who are not really saved. We are a human organisation. We do our best to hear testimonies, to make sure people really know the Lord, but we are not infallible. In the churches there are people who come in who are not really saved. Maybe they think they are, but they are never that dedicated, and if they seem to be it is for selfish reasons, something they want. These are the people in many churches at the moment, people who want to bring the world into the church, because they have never really repented and put it away from them. Some of them are even ministers, and they have very worldly tastes; they want the church to be like the world, and yet believe in Christ at the same time. So we accept that there will be problems, and the Lord had among his twelve this man Judas, who in due course would be his betrayer.
