And what is Christ’s response? ‘He called them unto him, and said unto them,’ – using parables – ‘How can Satan cast out Satan?’ It was the most absurd explanation. In the cold light of day what they say is preposterous. They cannot account for the power of Christ and his divine capabilities, except by something quite absurd: that the devil is destroying himself. Here he has sent a demon into some poor person; – because this was the start of it all – the person has been demon possessed, and now Satan destroys his demon. Ridiculous!
Application
Prejudice is so wicked when it's at an extreme. When somebody like them, those people, had seen close up the glory and the wonder of Christ, to then trump up some explanation like that! The Lord he gives several different arguments here, but they are all compounded in similar phrases. So you have the benefit of a series of arguments, and yet repetition to drive the point home.
