‘I will ask you one thing’, adds Luke’s Gospel. With one argument Christ will destroy all their prejudiced reasoning and sweep aside their traditions, as he challenges them to go back to the law of Moses.
Prejudice is always like that. Christ had pointed to Scripture; he had taught them; they had no answer for him; they were wrong, but they were going to admit it. They were so hardened and they said nothing. We get that today. It is interesting that the people who promote evolution will never seriously debate or answer the great problems that are put forward. There are problems raised by very accomplished scientific brains, and there are many of them. There are things that you would think were mighty torpedoes to the entire theory of evolution, and yet they will never address them. The evolutionists, even the leading contenders, always present their case on their terms. They will never deal with the insurmountable problems. In fact, if they can, they will prevent anyone else ever hearing of the problems. Science undergraduates today will know nothing about the case against evolution. Even most teachers won’t. They will never have heard of it. In the 1960s there was an eminent Professor of Physiology and Biochemistry at Southampton University, Professor Gerald Kerkut, and he became Head of the Department of Neurophysiology, and Dean of Science at the University in the course of time. He used to have the practice of setting his zoology and botany students a first essay, which was this: ‘Tell me some of the arguments against evolution’, and they never could. They would reply in an essay, ‘All there are are religious arguments, that if you believe in evolution you're doing away with God. We know of no scientific grounds or arguments.’ He would round up these essays and then he would give them a lecture – here is the case against evolution. Now interestingly, he taught evolution himself, but he thought the seemingly insuperable arguments against should be articulated, and understood, and so he wrote a book on the subject – ‘Implications of Evolution’. It is out of print now and out of date, but there are many other books, never answered, which produce problems and difficulties which totally undermine the theory. But they are hushed up; they are not on anybody's curriculum. Prejudice is always like that. It was happening in Christ’s day. If you answered the scribes and Pharisees, they were silent; they wouldn't argue; they couldn't. They held their peace. That's always the method of extreme prejudice.
