The tradition of the elders! The remarkable thing was that at this time these traditions were not even written down. They hadn't even taken the form of a written code. It wasn't for another 200 years that they would be adequately written down and made presentable. They were only oral traditions, and they were not in the Scriptures, not in the books of Moses. But nevertheless they asked this demandingly, perhaps even contemptuously: ‘Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders?’
