‘If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth’ – believe what? In the person of Christ: who he is. In the work of Christ: what he has done to save souls and to change lives. In the willingness of Christ and his promises to help all who come to him. He came to suffer and die on Calvary's cross to take himself the punishment due to all people who would ever be forgiven and given new lives. He took their eternal punishment for them. He suffered it, as they ought to suffer it, compressed into a space of time. You must believe in his willingness to help you. He says, ‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ If you can believe in his person: the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, the Messiah; his work: his atoning substitutionary death on Calvary's cross, his willingness to receive you; if you can believe those things, he will help you, and he can forgive you all your sin. He can give you new life, and he can give you a connection, a relationship, a union with himself. He can be your Lord and your God and your helper, and take you all the way to eternal glory with himself.
