Here we see a portrait of a godly man acting without all the facts but in a manner that is free from bitterness or revenge. Joseph must have been extremely saddened that the woman he loved and trusted, and whose character he thought he knew had behaved so wickedly, as he thought.
When we are grievously wronged we need to watch ourselves very carefully. Even in such a situation we are not released from the obligation to act meekly, calmly, without malice or revenge. God will take revenge on our behalf, and in in a way that is far more just and balanced than we can manage. Past loyalties should not quickly die, even when we have been betrayed by those we love. If love turns instantly into strong hatred, we have to question whether there was truly love there in the first place, or whether in fact we loved ourselves in a mirror.
