Christ is quoting Micah 7:6: ‘Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom. 6 For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house’ (Micah 7:5-6).
How many there are in the world that find fault with Christianity because they do not listen to what Christ says here. They assume that if he is the Christ, he will be sure to bring peace on the earth – ‘Surely, he came to make the world a better place’, they say – and since they do not see that peace in the world, they assume he has failed, or is not who he says he is. Always there will be persecution in some form. In this land at present, God is kind to us and physical persecution is held back. We therefore have to redouble our efforts to reach the people. Things are made so comfortable for us.
