If you are a young or even an old Christian, Satan will surround you with godless friends, until you’re one hundred percent commitment to the Lord is eroded. Believers with so much initial promise are sadly brought down by a godless friend. When we are converted, the old nature is put aside and a new nature is put on. But the if the heart is not occupied by the Spirit of God and there is not prayer and study of God’s word, and diligence to keep his commandments and to make conscience of them; then it is simply human reformation of life and the old delights will take over again and the old will come back. What about your thought life? What runs through your thoughts? Do you slip, so that more and more time is used by selfish covetous thoughts? You have not occupied your heart with better things? We are to fill our minds with prayer, praise, wholesome things, helping others, contributing to God’s cause. Then you will not be taken over once again. So don’t leave the house of your soul empty, or else the same old demon will come back. What was my chief sin before conversion? Pride, temper, dishonesty, self-admiration, money? Those will try to reoccupy.
