The sower, the farmer who owns the field, is the Son of Man himself. The one standing before them and speaking with them is the Creator of the world, and he knows why he created it. He was the one who made the universe and placed his elect people on this earth, for he planned their lives from eternity past. They are the good seed planted in order to produce a good harvest. This is different from the Parable of the Sower in which the good seed is the word of God, the gospel. Now what is growing is human lives. All generations are reduced to one crop, which is sown, left to grow, and then harvested. It is as if we are to view the human race and its entire history as a single generation, so that we can focus on the most important elements of what God is doing in the world. The Son of Man has made this world to produce something good from it. He declared creation very good in the first place, and he knew what good thing he intended to come out of it. Man was made in the image of God and he alone out of all the creatures on earth was capable of worshipping God, of understanding his thoughts, obeying his commands, and loving his Creator. God made man upright, and there was nothing in his original constitution that was evil or that would necessarily lead to sin. There were no tares in the original crop that was sown, and there was no evil present in the human heart. Man loved his Creator and was free from any suspicion towards his God.
