The narrative tells us it was the fourth watch of the night – between 3 am and 6 am – and Jesus came to them, walking on the water. Mark says that ‘he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them’ (Mark 6:48).
So it is with us. Isn’t it awful? Our insulting faith to the Lord. He saved my soul. I believe in him. He came from glory. He suffered and died on Calvary. He heard my cry, he changed my life, and he gave me a new nature. Endlessly down life’s journeys he has heard my prayers; he has blessed me in a way that has so moved me. Yet today I may have a problem and I scarcely believe in him to strengthen me and see me through and bless me. They are half-believers and so are we sometimes. Christ will not respond to us until we call upon him.
